Road Tanker and Rail Tank Car Bottom Loading

The choice to bottom load chemicals is best not taken quickly. The unique hazards faced by operators and the environment, including a liquid or vapour release event, should be taken into account when making the choice between top or bottom loading of chemicals.

Once the suitability of bottom loading has been determined the specification of the components to be used depends on, amongst other things, the physical characteristics of the chemicals to be loaded. A rigorous assessment of the suitability of all wetted components must be undertaken.

Along with components widely used when bottom loading fuel road tankers such as fail-safe high integrity isolation valves, flowmeters, digital/analogue flowrate control valves, flame/detonation arrestors, loading arms and overfill/grounding monitoring systems – custom configured and designed components such as Loading Controllers, Overfill & Grounding Verificiation Monitors and Dry Disconnect Couplings are often required.

Any fluid transfer and control system must be able to integrate with the Client’s site safety and Control Systems so that appropriate responses can be programmed based on external events to maintain the safety and reliability of the transfer process and equipment.

AFTAC can provide the Fluid Transfer, Loading Control , additive injection and Data Management components as well as an Integrated Systems to improve safety, increase efficiency and reduce overall investment in a bottom loading Road Tanker or Rail Tank Car loading facility.
